“The location of the accident was instantly secured and operations within the space of the accident have been briefly suspended and can resume as soon as it’s decided that it may be achieved so in a secure method,” the Toronto-based miner stated in a press release.
The Kansanshi mine, which produced 134,827 tonnes of copper and 68,970 ounces of gold final yr, has confronted security challenges up to now.
Two of First Quantum’s contractors at its Zambia operations, together with one on the Kansanshi, had died in November final yr in separate accidents.
